About

We are all works in progress. When we start out, our parents have an idea of who they want us to be, so they try to mold us. Then, we have an opportunity to question what we know and to define things for ourselves. It’s through this process that we discover the importance of endurance, faith, and humility. The belief in oneself and the willingness to overcome the odds is what allows us to grow. I often wonder what we would say to ourselves if we were children and viewing our adult selves. I guess that’s why children are so important. They remind us of who we were and who we always wanted to be. They awaken the dreamer inside of us.

Around us, we see people who have yet to overcome their circumstances. Many falling victim to things within their control, but it is our job to reach out, to help them understand that they too are a work in progress, and that they can change if they have the will to fight indifference. Many more stand at arms length and watch their neighbor suffer.

It’s time that we teach, love, and care for one another rather than just giving people things. We can make our communities great again by being great in them. We need to stop being indifferent. We need to share our gifts and hold on to hope that life will get better, or it never will. We need to battle addiction and depression while embracing the families who are living with them. We need to empower the empoverished, giving them opportunities to break the cycle and live better lives.

The greatest thing about sharing is that when we offer our time or our gifts to others, we ultimately receive more. So really, love is the gift that continues to give after we are gone and when we share this gift, we progress. This my step in faith, to do something. I believe that as we make this step, others will walk with us, and we can begin to change things, one breath at a time. Fighting Indifference is stepping up where we can so that we are not sitting on the sidelines wishing things could change or needing someone to talk to and being afraid that we will be judged for not being perfect. It is having the courage to act, no matter how small the gesture. It’s encouraging someone, saying hello to a stranger, or picking up a piece of trash. It’s a great way to live. It feels right because it is right.
