Get Involved

imageThere are a lot of places in your local area that are changing people’s lives. On a missions trip that I went on a few years ago, I met an amazing crew of people dedicated to taking food that has been discarded from restaurants in the DC Metro area and using it to feed the local schools and shelters. The program at D.C. Central Kitchen also trains people, even homeless people, in the field of Culinary Arts, so that they can begin a sustaining career, all the while giving back to the community that picked them up. How awesome is that? There are opportunities like this in my community.

In Sunbury, we have Elijah’s Bowl, a program that feeds and offers fellowship for members of our community who are in need. We also have an amazing program named Caring for Kids that provides bagged meals for students who would otherwise go without food on the weekends. Haven Ministries is an amazing place that provides temporary shelter for people in our area. We also have A Community Clinic, which offers free health care for the uninsured. If you are looking to reach out, consider your local United Way. Click on their names to see is examples of what they are doing in my community.

There are numerous organizations that are meeting people’s needs and there are programs waiting to be born. What needs do you have in your community and what resources are available? Do you have what it takes to set it motion?

What do you think?
